Synthesis | Including both inorganic and organic disciplines, programming in the area of Synthesis extends from new catalytic metal-oxide nanocrystals, to small molecule catalysis, organic synthetic methodology, green chemistry, and natural product synthesis. |
Energy Generation and Storage | In order to address energy challenges in the 21st century, new technologies are needed to both generate sustainable energy and store that energy in batteries, super-capacitors, and fuels. These symposia pull together experts from a variety of areas in chemistry and materials science to foster the innovation necessary for these breakthrough technologies. |
Optoelectronics and Sensing | This programming welcomes diverse topics pertaining to light-emitting devices, light manipulation systems, and sensor technologies. Topics that seek to address modern challenges in optoelectronics are particularly encouraged. The symposia include theoretical and experimental aspects. |
Biological and Medical Chemistry | Our program in Biological and Medicinal Chemistry pulls together chemists studying both native and synthetic biochemical systems that range from small molecule drugs to huge multi-protein cellular machines. As part of this program, we look forward to hosting a plenary talk from Wilfred van der Donk, the 2020 Harrison Howe Award winner. |
Sustainability | Topics in sustainability include water chemistry, green chemistry, and synthetic methods, and CO2 conversion as well as areas in sustainable energy generation and storage. |
Materials Chemistry | These exciting symposia pull together Materials Chemists from the region working in areas of both “soft” materials such as polymers, aerogels and coatings, and “hard” materials such as ceramics and nanoparticles. |
Manufacturing and Fabrication | Symposia in this area focus on chemical and materials production and/or applications. These include experimental design, materials processing, quality assurance, chemical-assisted machining, chemical mechanical processing, specialty composite coatings, and additive manufacturing (3D printing). General topics such as new technology development as well as focused topics such as structure-process-property relationships will align with these symposia. |
General Chemical Topics | All areas of chemistry will be represented at the regional meeting! Even if you don’t fit into one of the broad areas above, you can contribute to the open topics sessions in Organic, Inorganic, Physical, and Analytical chemistry. |
Special Topics | Special events that are part of our unique technical program! |
